The video 'Runaway - Devlin featuring Yasmin' consists of different narratives and stories in relation to running away. They do not exactly illustrate the lyrics although they illustrate the idea of running away. My group and I chose this song because the title is very specific yet we can play around with the video and amplify the meanings. There are plenty of edits throughout this video which reflects the conventions of a music video, and the camera angles are used very effectively. This is includes a range of close ups which expose the artist and gains their attention, as well as the artists looking directly into the camera which Andrew Goodwin describes as an extension performance and is done in the beginning of the video with Devlin rapping. This is important because it involves the viewer at home and is a very assertive way of sending a message about a very sensitive topic.
Despite this however my music video will differ. Firstly the narrative will be slightly omniscient in the sense that the artist will be in the background of a situation rapping whilst a girl is being abused, therefore balancing the performance and story. This idea was inspired from 'Runaway Love - Ludacris ft Mary J Blige' which also gave us ideas for our music video. Within out video we want their to be a form of animation, and a drawing as our visual motif which is not present in the original video, and we are looking very forward to try.
