4. What have you learned from audience feedback

Using comments from the audience feedback if i was to film another music video i would include the following.

  • Make the target audience clearer through use of location. perhaps use more of a variety in locations as well

3. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Credits

Google.

Google was used to research everything that inspired the video. I googled various artist album covers and poses.  I used google images very often for pictures on the blog, to find bar codes, and record labels for my ancillary product.

Special Thanks to Google.
Youtube.

The video sharing site Youtube was very helpful in the research process. I looked at hundreds of raps videos to draw inspiration for my own music video. I found loads of different types of videos and made a short-list of all the best ones than created a video that combined all of the best elements from the short-listed videos.

Blogger

I spent many monotonous hours blogging every and anything about the whole coursework on blogger. Blogger was helpful because i had the opportunity to see where other groups were with they're work and could compare it to mine and often i would have to add more or work harder based on what other people where doing. That really helped me push and get the most out of the video.

Digital Camera.

The digital camera was very useful throughout the duration of course. I used the digital camera to...

  •  take pictures of locations that i scouted and show them to my film crew.
  • do a photo-shoot of the performing artist for the album cover
  • take pictures while filming, to upload to blogger.
  • For the animatic I made before filming.
Flip Camera

I used the flip camera for behind the scene footage specifically for the blog just a different approach to updating readers on new ideas, events and general events of filming days.
I also used a flip camera to interview audiences for feedback

JVC Camera

Without the jvc camera ( the Camera i used) there would be no music video. I was surprised at the high definition quality of the video when I first watched it on Vimeo.

Vimeo

Vimeo is another video sharing site i used vimeo to share my music video with family and friends who did not get a chance to see the video in the cinema.

Mac PC
there were many functions on the Mac PC that assisted the creation and evaluation of my music video and ancillary product.

1. Final Cut Pro

Final cut was the only software used to edit my music video. I found features on final cut pro like transitions and slow motion useful when trying to create memorable moments in the video.

2. Photoshop

I used only Photoshop when creating the digipack. It had some useful effects like a cartoony effect i put on the performing artist for the digipack.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)

It has come to my attention that many artist these days are referring to themselves as "brands". Because of this i wanted to promote "Professor D" as a brand I researched the way that actual brands promote themselves in different products using McDonalds as an example.

Its all about making the public familiar with the brand and the best way to do this is through repetition. Anywhere in the world if you see a big yellow M you automatically know it is Mcdonalds.

I used this method of repetition by putting a similar image in every product involving professor D a medium close-up of him wearing a Ralph Lauren t-shirt this will create notoriety. Hopefully he will become notorious for these small idiosyncratic features.

The correct pose

As a convention of the genre the artist should have a serious facial expression like in the following album covers.
50 Cent notice the lack of emotion on his face.

A few examples of bad album covers
this picture wouldn't work because the artist is smiling.

This picture could work but its rare to find a side shot as an album cover i would prefer a straight shot so the fans can see his whole face especially as he is a new artist.

Perfect!

The correct font

The font was very important when creating my album cover. I chose the font Portagal because it has a hard militant effect on it and that was the look that i felt best represented the album.

I made sure everything written was in this font to establish continuity

Final Digipack

The Advert

The Outside Pannel
Inspired by "Drakes - Thank Me Later" Album Cover

The white background is conventional of the Hip-Hop genre
I used the same colour scheme also with a straight shot of the artist

The inside Pannel
Inspired By "Paul Heaton's - Acid Country"

Final Attempt

I have decided to go with a more plain subtle approach i have received a lot of positive feedback in the creative process.

Another Try

This was my second attempt it was better because the image coveys character and personality. But i Denzels face is not showing. As he is a new artist it was essential for the audience to be familiarised with him therefore hiding his face was a bad idea.

So i had to start all over again!

First attempt

This is my first attempt at creating an album cover after a lot of analysation and criticism i realised i would have to make some changes.

ERRORS

  • The font colour is terrible. It doesn't stand out and is barely legible because the shade of blue is too close to the blue in the background.
  • The background has no connotations of the genre, although i liked the dreamlike state that it conveyed it just didn't depict the gritty ethos of the genre.
  • The background image was stretched and therefore made the whole image look amateurish.
  • The low opacity of the image just did not work.
Good Points

  • The composition of everything is descent.

ideas for colour schemes

I like the dreamlike atmospheric colour scheme of this Meek Mill its very cool and calm but it still grabs attention.
This is an ideal background for the album cover. The colour schemes are perfect and the background creates an atmospheric mood.

Drawing of Album cover and Advert

The album cover
 The inner disc
The Adverts

First Attempt At Album Cover

Problems:

  • The colours/ Tones dont match
  • The two blues (font and background) dont match
  • the image was not taken by me i got it from google apparently we cant do that
Pros:

  • I like the opacity of the picture of denzel it makes the shot seem more dreamlike it didn't work too well with that background though.
  • The framing was good i didn't stretch the image and make his head look disproportionate.
What i need to do now is

  • Create my own original background
  • choose a better matching color scheme

Bad Student Digipacks

Good Student Digipacks

What makes this a good digipack is it conveys the artists personality

Bad digipacks

Good digipacks

From this cd cover i like the positioning of the artist and text thats the layout i plan to use for my album cover but i'm not a big fan of the colour scheme despite the bright yellow text it still doesn't grab attention the way i want my album cover to. The black makes it look rather dull and thats not how i want my artist to be represented. There ae images in the background but they're too dark to see if i do decide to use other images in the video i would want them to be obvious and meaningful to potential customers.

On This Meek Mill mixtape cover i love the background, colour scheme, detail. The connotations of the smoke flowing from the artist mouth is considered cool in the hip-hop genre to young people our target audience. But it also represents a dreamlike state relating to the name of the mixtape dreamchaser. I also like the font and the opacity level because they are clear but not too distracting.

class discussion about cd covers

What are album covers used for?

  • For Promotion
  • Album art is still used for mp3 files
  • To help sell the CD make it look interesting
  • Promoton of artist
  • Grabs attention
  • Gives information of artist direction
  • Advertisement
  • Recognition creates an identity
  • Used for mp3 files (Itunes)
How important are the ancillary to album sales and promotion

  • More money to be made
  • Its important because without promotion
  • gives them brand identity
  • Helps build a stronger fanbase
  • Reach a wider audience

My Character In The Music Video

"Shazray Vangogh Dicaprio" he is a British actor who has starred in a couple films such as

  • The Cool Kids
  • Vamps and Wolfs
and is going to replace Robert patterson for the next twilight coming in the summer

he has a big buzz surrounding his name right now and is linked to some hollywood directors. Having him make a cameo performance in this video should bring in some more fans and make it more credible
